OVEREXPOSED

June 12, 2011

In the rap lyrics of Usher’s “Yeah,” Ludacris states that he wants “A lady in the streets, but a freak in the bed.”  In dissecting this statement,  Ludacris  was implying that he wanted a woman who knows how to act classy in public but also live up to his sexual desires behind closed doors.  It appears that this statement is describing the perfect woman in the eyes of the male species.  However, if that is the true desire of most men, then many women are failing to live up to those expectations!  Instead of being a lady in the streets, some women are acting like street-walkers. From popular social networks to popular news sites, women are exceedingly overexposing themselves.  Why does every female celebrity have to take explicit photos, wear yeast-infection clothing, and act provocatively whenever possible?  Is this not the behavior that Luda said to keep behind closed doors?  Think about it…some women are literally releasing sex tapes on purpose.  Honestly, what man wants a woman who has exploited her body for the world to see?  Sadly, teens are emulating such behavior in the form of sexually explicit picture texts.  Many young girls are more concerned about showing off their body with provocative clothing than earning good grades in school. Unfortunately, some women forgot that the true mystery to keeping a man is being the mystery!

*SN: When did showing your goodies equal to fame and fortune?  We have to do better America!

*SN: Reference to Ludacris is only in relation to the lyrics in this specific song; I’m aware that he exploits women. There will be a discussion about the rap game and the exploitation of women in the future!

unfortunately this is nothing new. if you think about it in a worldview young girls and women are often exploited and molded to be appealing to a man. i just think in this time and age it’s now becoming more acceptable in american culture. as young women we first gain our self esteem from a man and with the lack of good father figures u see as a result more and more young girls going to extremes just for a little attention.

The declining values of American culture have created a generation of self-absorbed individuals who seek attention in any way possible. I agree that women have always been portrayed in the media in sexually explicit ways, but it has definitely reached a new low! I think that women have more power and influence than the women of our past. The women of our past paved the way for us to have a stronger role in society and instead of using our role to empower other women and young girls, many women have settled for using their bodies as their main weapon to gain power, money, and fame. Many individuals in this generation only see the value in how they look and in return use this way of thinking to judge and influence others. Unfortunately, with the twisted values of this “new” American culture, how you look and how nasty you act can land you a career making millions.

Well stated BUT, what are we doing to change this outlook? We LET things get this far, it should be our main priority to resolve it!

  3. SAL Says:

When women gain enough self-respect to value their bodies and pass this value to their daughters everything else will fall into place. We have to value ourselves and say “NO” to offers to exploit our bodies and revamp our lifestyles to portray the positive aspects of being a woman. Also, we have to stop assuming that all men want a porn star for a partner. A man who loves and respect you, will value your MIND, BODY, and SOUL!
